Scott Heidemann

March 4, 1957 — May 1, 2022

Scott A. Heidemann, age 65, of Merrill, passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with his loving wife by his side on Sunday, May 1, 2022 after being unexpectedly injured doing what he loved – the evening farm chores.

Scott was born March 4, 1957, to Victor and Marjorie (Turbin) Heidemann. He was the fourth generation to grow up on the Heidemann Homestead in the Town of Pine River. Scott married his high school sweetheart, Laurie L. Schepp, on July 16, 1977, a union lasting nearly 45 years. Together they raised two sons, Ross and Dirk, whom they instilled traditional family values.

Scott loved and cherished his family above all. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a wonderful Papa Scott to his two grandchildren, Tavin and Brynlee. Scott will always be remembered for his kind heart, helpful hands, and sense of humor. He was best described by his mother-in-law as “one of the good ones.”

Scott started his mechanical career with Rod’s Wrecker Service. In 1988, Scott and Laurie took over the family dairy farm. In 2004, the dairy operation was sold and he joined his home-away-from-home work family at Peterson Sand & Gravel. He truly enjoyed delivering material to customers, allowing him to meet new people and touch base with old friends. He had a strong passion for International Harvester machinery and had the ability to fix almost anything, from tractors to heavy equipment. Scott prided himself on his organized toolboxes and his meticulous work ethic. More than anything, he loved to farm and filled his days with his love of the land. Scott was also an avid deer hunter and was famous for his homemade, cold-smoked sausage. Scott was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Town of Pine River, where he served on the Church Council, Cemetery Committee, and Finance Committee.  Scott will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Laurie Heidemann, of Merrill; his sons Ross Heidemann (Melissa Gilbert and her son Christian Gilbert) and Dirk (Jessica) Heidemann and their children Tavin and Brynlee, all of Merrill; mother Marjorie Heidemann of Merrill; and brother Timothy (Kelley) of Merrill. In addition, he is survived by Laurie’s family:  Dale Schepp of Merrill; Dawn (Edward) Vruwink of Rudolph, WI; Terri (Paul) Schmidt of Pelican Lake, WI; sister-in-law Stephanie Schepp of Merrill, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Scott was preceded in death by his father Victor Heidemann, brother Michael Heidemann, father-in-law Wayne Schepp, mother-in-law Irene Schepp, and brother-in-law Kerri Schepp.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022, at 11:00 am at Calvary Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine River.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Waid Funeral Home and again on Friday, May 6, 2022, from 10:00 am until the time of service, also at the church.  Interment will be at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Pine River.
