Richard Berndt

Richard J. Berndt, age 71, of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 12, 1948 in Merrill to the late Harold & Inez (Wendt) Berndt. On November 3, 1973 he and Peggy were united in marriage in Merrill.  She survives.

Richard graduated from Merrill High School in 1966 and NTCI with a printing degree in 1968.  He worked in the printing business until he started working for American Asphalt and retired in 2006.  Richard was a volunteer and an honorary member of the Corning Fire Department.  He was also the Corning town treasurer for 36 years.  Richard had a great love for the outdoors.  He enjoyed going hunting and fishing.  Richard had a passion for making maple syrup.   He belonged to the local 139 Union.  Richard enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his loving wife: Peggy, children: Tim (Kathy Henrich) Berndt, Michelle (Joe) Bickett, Kevin (Elida) Berndt,  all of Merrill; 6 grandchildren; Samantha (Collin Zoellner), Elizabeth, Abigail, Lily, Alexander, Lincoln, brother: Dennis (Carol) Berndt, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
