Kenneth 'Kenny' Ellenbecker

December 25, 1982 — January 25, 2020

Kenneth Michael Ellenbecker, age 37, known to everyone as Kenny, died on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at his residence.  A lifelong Merrill resident, he was born on December 25, 1982 to Ava Casper and Joseph Ellenbecker.

Kenny was a quiet, self-contained man who enjoyed his shortened life and possessed a strong devotion to his family.  He appreciated watching sports (especially the Chicago Blackhawks), a good movie, reading and liked to play video games.  In his younger years, he excelled in playing basketball and baseball.  Although he was prone to not saying too much, when he did voice himself, what he said was well thought out and eloquently spoken.

Kenny’s love of animals only makes it more fitting that Bear, the family dog, passed away with him.

He was the person that families depended on to check things and watch the family critters while they were away.  He was also right there if you needed a helping hand, patiently guiding, making sure things flowed smoothly.  Although Kenny was a tall man, and his size could be threatening, he was a very caring, gentle man with a kind, loving disposition.

Something else Kenny enjoyed doing was working.  Most of us dislike the dread of going to work every day.  He enjoyed working at Northern Wire and the people there, looking forward to the daily hustle and bustle.

He is survived by his mother: Ava (Jim) Casper, Sun City Center, FL, father: Joseph Ellenbecker, Irma, WI, sister: Angela (Jason Daley) Ellenbecker, Merrill, WI and sister-in-law: Chojze Yang, Madison, WI, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is proceeded in death by his brother: Daniel Ellenbecker.

Services for Kenny will be 10 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Waid Funeral Home.  For those unable to attend the service there will be a visitation held from 11 AM to 2 PM with food & fellowship on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Waid Funeral Home.  A private family service and inurnment will be held at a later date in Twin Buttes, North Dakota.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Kenny’s name be made to the Lincoln County Humane Society.

The family would like to thank the Merrill Fire Department and all of the first responders for all they did to retrieve Kenny and put out the fire.  Our deepest appreciation not only for your help with our family, but for all you do for the citizens of this city.  We also are greatly appreciative of the mailman who called it in and the neighbor who helped Angie until the police and fire department arrived.  Thank you all so much.

Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
