Gladys L. Hintze, age 100, passed away September 18, 2021 at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill. She was born November 2, 1920 in Clare, Iowa to the late Otis F. and Esther A. C. (Johnson) Fortney. On July 8, 1964, Gladys and Ralph E. Hintze were united in marriage, a union that would last nearly 50 years. Ralph preceded her in death on June 26, 2012.
Gladys attended a one room schoolhouse in Fort Dodge through the 9th grade. She worked as a bookkeeper for 25 years, working at 1st National Foods and later at the hat store, which she managed for much of that time. Gladys loved family gatherings, especially Easter breakfast. She also enjoyed playing cards, her favorite was calling out “Trump”! Gladys was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was very caring and family oriented and always there for whoever needed her. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her son: William (Gladys) Dietrich, of Wausau; daughter-in-law: Barbara Dietrich, Wausau; stepson: Dennis (Barb) Hintze, Merrill; stepdaughter: Susan (Tom) Okray, Pine Mountain, GA; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, three children, Diane K. Krenz, Lyle W. Dietrich, and Wanda Helvey, two great grandsons, Justin Krenz and Tyler Krenz, three great-great-grandchildren, Keaton Wiesman, Kendel Wiesman, and Anthony Moser, two sisters, Ruth Richmond and Dorothy Magnuson and one brother, Charles Fortney.
Funeral Services for Gladys will take place at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Waid Funeral Home. Rev. Neal Behm will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service, Friday, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Luther Memorial Cemetery, town of Russell.
