Dorothy M. Gibson, age 94, of Merrill, died on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill, while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. Dorothy was born on July 30, 1927, to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Beaudoin) Gibson, in Trout Lake, MI and was the youngest of her siblings. She attended Rudyard High School in Rudyard, Michigan.
Dorothy retired as the Assistant Hospital Administrator at the Holy Cross Hospital in Merrill. Dorothy (“Gib” as Ruth Jane called her) and Ruth Jane were the best of friends and enjoyed going to their cottage on Long Lake in Harrison Hills where they would relax, swim, read books, watch birds, play Farkle and feed the chipmunks peanuts by hand. Dorothy played the ukulele and harmonica by the campfire. She also enjoyed downhill skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. Dorothy traveled to many other European countries with Ruth Jane. They traveled often to Arizona visiting their snowbird friends. Dorothy enjoyed dressing up in her clown costume and clowning around! Last but not least, she looked forward to her next trip to the casino. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and St. Francis Xavier Church.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, life-long friend: Ruth Jane Teske, brothers: Russell, Robert and Eugene and sisters: Luella, Gladys, and Elizabeth (Bette).
A funeral liturgy will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 4pm at Waid Funeral Home. Father Maria Vallabhaneni will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, from 3pm until the time of the liturgy, also at the funeral home. Burial of Dorothy’s cremated remains will take place at a later date at the Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either Pine Crest Nursing Home or Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services in Dorothy’s name are encouraged. Thank you to Pine Crest Nursing Home for taking care of Dorothy for all these years.
