Yurgen P. Markewycz, age 76, of Merrill, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Aspirus Merrill Hospital.  He was born in Germany on April 28, 1947, and was the son to the late Marion and Christa (Ebert) Markewycz.  Yurgen attended and graduated from Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL and went on to study history and psychology from Western Illinois University.  He met the love of his life, Ruth Ann “Ranndy” Dreger, and the two exchanged marriage vows on August 29, 1981 in Madison, WI.  She survives.

Yurgen worked in finance for over 40 years, at various banks in the area, many of those years as a bank manager.  When he was younger, he loved playing and watching soccer.  Yurgen was a very dedicated Merrill Lions Club member and was a very giving and generous man.  Over the years, he and Ranndy would enjoy going vacationing to various locations.  Yurgen was on the board for the Merrill Historical Society and the MAC Home.  He was a funny and witty person with an infectious smile.  His kindness and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Yurgen leaves behind his beloved wife: Ruth Ann “Ranndy” Markewycz of Merrill, brother: Alex (Deborah) Markewycz of Fox Lake, IL, niece: Lynn and nephew: Evan (Melanie), brothers in law, William (Deirdre) Dreger of Tomahawk and Robert (Leslie) Dreger of Kalamazoo, Michigan, along with numerous good friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Roman.

Per family request, no formal services will be held for Yurgen, but a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.  He will be entombed at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau.
