Shirley M. Wojciechowski, aged 95, of Merrill, died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Pine Crest Nursing Home. Shirley was born March 29, 1925 in the town of Stettin. Marathon county, daughter of Otto and Lillian Borchardt. She married Eugene Wojciechowski July 24, 1946.
After their marriage Eugene and Shirley moved to Milwaukee where they built two houses while they both worked full-time jobs. After both houses were purchased by the government through eminent domain for the Interstate Highway System they moved back north and used the proceeds to help start their own business. They opened Park Town Coin Laundromat in Merrill in the old Drew's grocery store on Main Street, which burnt down in 1966 in one of Merrill's more spectacular fires. By 1 968 their laundromat was open in a new building on the site of the old Leideger Brewery which they operated until retirement in 1987. Shirley took pride in keeping a clean laundromat.
In her spare time Shirley enjoyed her Basenjis, knitting, crocheting afghans, working jigsaw puzzles, volunteering at Pine Crest, Red Cross and St. Vincents and spending time with her family. She had a strong work ethic. When there was work to be done she was always there to help and heaven help you if you tried to take "her work"
Shirley was preceded in death by Eugene, her parents, sisters Alma, Orva and Marjorie and brothers Roger and Otto Jr. She is survived by her son Randall (Karen) Wojciechowski, Merrill and her sister Jean (John) Gabor, Milwaukee and step grandsons Adam and Jacob Knospe.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Pine Crest and their staff for the excellent and compassionate care they provided for Shirley. The staff at Pine Crest are truly wonderful. We deep appreciation also for the personnel of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services who eased her passage from life to death.
Per Shirley's request no services will be held. Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Please direct any memorials in her name to the Lincoln County Humane Society.
