Pete Annis

Peter A. Annis, of Irma, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Ministry St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston, WI, while surrounded by his family and friends.  He was the son of the late Charles and Doris (Schenzel) Annis, and was born on December 1, 1953 in Merrill.  Pete attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Merrill High School.  He went on to further his education at Northcentral Technical College, taking classes in welding and police science.

In his early years, Pete worked as a welder at LOED Corporation, before joining the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department as a Sheriff’s Deputy in December 1975, until his retirement in December of 2012.  He proudly served and protected the citizens of Lincoln County, and was a mentor to many of his colleagues.  Pete was respected by many.  He taught hunter’s safety, as well as being involved with the Explorer Scouts.  Rodeo was one of Pete’s passions.  He was very involved with the Lincoln County Rodeo Association and was a past president. He would go to Las Vegas every year for the National Finals Rodeo.  He was also on the board of directors for the Wisconsin River Pro Rodeo for many years.  Pete served on the Wisconsin Traffic & Safety Officers Association.  For many years, Pete enjoyed deer hunting with his son and extended family.  He always looked forward to the annual Muskie Hunt in Minocqua with his friends from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the Tomahawk Police Department.  Most recently, Pete enjoyed working with the people at CarQuest in Merrill, in his part time gig delivering parts.  He was a social person that befriended a lot of people.  He will be sadly missed.

Pete is survived by his son: Adam Annis of Minneapolis, MN, former wife: Jane Severt of Merrill, sisters: Sue Gietzel and Chris Knipe, brother: Dan Annis, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins and his beloved granddog: “Lucy”.  He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Doris (Schenzel) Annis.

A Memorial Service for Pete will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 3pm at Waid Funeral Home.  Pastor Brad Main will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 1pm until the time of the service, also at the funeral home.
