Martha (Leiskau) Neumann

Martha Ann (Leiskau) Neumann, age 88, formerly of Merrill, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 in Fitchburg, WI while under the care of Agrace Hospice.  She was born on August 27, 1931 to the late Martin and Lettie (Morse) VerHagen in Langlade County.  Martha attended school in Shawano.  On November 21, 1946, she married Leo Leiskau Sr. in Wittenberg, WI.  Sadly, he preceded her in death on March 25, 1973.  Martha then married Ronald Neumann on May 28, 1977.  He preceded her in death on December 22, 2003.

Martha was first and foremost a mother and homemaker.  She also worked at Fox Point Glove factory and Hanson-Gilke window factory, before retiring on the family dairy farm in the town of Pine River.  Martha was a previous member of the Merrill Lions Club and Trinity Lutheran Church.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren, baking, fishing and going on camping trips with a group of friends.  Martha was also very devoted to church, as her faith was very important to her.  She is remembered as a caring woman that took on the role of a caretaker to many.  Martha looked forward to watching her grandchildren in their sporting events, she was one of their main supporters! She also enjoyed playing cards, dancing and listening to country and old time music.  In her later years, she enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders, especially hummingbirds.  Martha will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered.

Martha is survived by her children: Linda (LaVern) Voigt Sr. of Merrill, Leo Leiskau Jr. of Merrill, Peter (Jill) Leiskau of Stoughton, WI, Harvey Leiskau of Oregon, WI and Susan (Dennis) Yzermans of Land O’ Lakes, FL, step-children: Denny (Liz) Neumann, Lynn (Neil) Zunker and Darcy Neumann, all of Merrill, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, sisters: Pearl Waldvogel, Betty VerHagen Hagemen, Gloria Bettack and Clara Borneman, brother: Richard VerHagen and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Leo Leiskau Sr. and Ronald Neumann and son: Roger Leiskau.

The funeral service for Martha will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 11am at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill.  The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 9am until the time of the service, also at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Springbrook Cemetery, immediately following the service.
