Marlene Sue Benzinger, age 76, of Merrill, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at her home. Marlene was born on June 26, 1947 to the late Harry and LuEllen “Enzie” (Litke) Benzinger. She attended Merrill High School and graduated with the class of 1965. Marlene’s life partner, Terry Frisch, sadly preceded her in death.
Marlene worked at Merrill Manufacturing for her entire adult life, until her retirement. When she was younger, she enjoyed going fishing and spending time on the lake. Marlene was on the pool league for the Wednesday Women’s League, playing for S&S bar. She loved to be out and about and socializing with her friends, especially at S&S bar and Rock Island. Marlene was a jokester, that had a fun and witty sense of humor, if you knew her well, you knew “Pee Wee” everyone loved. She is described as a one-of-a-kind person with a big heart and would help anyone in need if she could. Marlene also looked forward to time on the pontoon, traveling and playing cribbage. She will be sadly missed, but memories of her will remain.
Marlene is survived by her nieces: Penny (Ernie) Garza and Susie Zemke, nephews: David Loskot, Ron Benzinger and Tom (Lynda) Benzinger, sister-in-law: Bonnie Benzinger, Terry’s daughter: Jennifer (Troy) Engman, along with numerous great nieces and nephews, as well as a lot of good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, life partner: Terry Frisch, brothers: Roger and David Benzinger, sister: Barbara (Gerald) Loskot and nephew: Darren Loskot.
A Celebration of life for Marlene will take place at a later date.
Amongst the many friends and relatives in her life, family wishes to express a special thank you to her great niece, Jolena (Jeff) Davies for their care and help they provided to Marlene, as well as Sue Spoehr, Jamie and Scott Hinz, Beth (Chad) Meyer, Mike Mensching, Shirley Eggers and the “Golden Girls” along with many other special people that she kept close to her heart.
