Marilyn Stiver

January 11, 1939 — November 24, 2015

Marilyn R. Stiver, age 76, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Pine Crest Nursing Home. She was born January 11, 1936 in Merrill to the late Edward and Ruth (Morrison) Ashbrenner. On September 11, 1965 Marilyn and Dennis A. Stiver were united in marriage in Merrill. He survives. Marilyn graduated from Merrill Senior High School. She was a proofreader at the Merrill Daily Herald before marrying and starting a family. Marilyn was a seamstress and worked many years out of her home sewing and doing alterations. Her talents also included knitting, quilting and numerous types of needlework. She took pleasure in gardening and plants of all kinds flourished under her care. Marilyn was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church all her life and taught religious education for many years. She was active in Girl Scouts, serving as a troop leader and trainer to many others. Marilyn was a lifelong learner who enjoyed new experiences, especially her travels in Mexico. Her curiosity, kindness and patience made her a friend to many neighborhood children and adored by her grandchildren. Her willingness to listen will not be forgotten by those who knew her. She will be missed. Survivors include her husband of over fifty years, Dennis Stiver of Merrill, her son, Jim Stiver (Ivonne Alicea) of Palm Bay, FL, daughter, Laura Stiver Walsh (Steven Walsh) of Nashville, TN, and grandchildren, Tommy and Summer Walsh. Marilyn also is survived by two brothers, James (Dallas) Ashbrenner of Rhinelander and Richard (Judy) Ashbrenner of Merrill, and her honorary grandchildren, Frank Alicea and Ashley Raddatz, along with nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ruth Ashbrenner of Merrill. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 12 noon at Waid Funeral Home. Fr. Chris Kemp will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of the service. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home and express gratitude to friends and family that offered their love and support.
