Lylas Kanitz

Lylas J. Kanitz of Merrill WI, died Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the age of 88, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, WI. Lylas was born to the late Gustave and Anna (Wendland) Kanitz on May 6, 1927. He served our country from 1945-1946 as a Navy Seaman 1st class in the Pacific. He worked for Hargrave Appliance Store for 10 years and worked for 28 years at Wisconsin Public Service as a meter reader until his retirement. During his younger years he enjoyed being outdoors and hunting. He especially liked taking care of his yard and garden; watching and feeding the birds that inhabited his yard; driving around in his truck; and going on neighborhood walks.He was known to venture into downtown Merrill several times a day to have coffee with his friends at Pine Ridge restaurant or County Market, or just to learn what was going on in town, or to watch the new Wal-mart Supercenter being built. Lylas was preceded in death by his parents, Gustave (Gus) Herman Kanitz and Anna Elizabeth(Wendland) Kanitz; brothers, Elmer Kanitz, Leslie Kanitz, and Alvin "Butch" Kanitz; sisters, Eleanor Schulz, Alice Emma Kanitz; a nephew, Roy Schulz. He is survived many nieces and nephews: Lorraine Koch, Dale(Rose) Kanitz, Daniel(Dawn) Kanitz, Allan(Julie) Kanitz, Victor(Therese) Kanitz, Virgil(Lori) Kanitz, Gordon Kanitz, Gwen(Mike) Schmidt, Rhonda(Tim) Kanitz-Henrichs, Pamela J. Hamilton, Alfred P. Kanitz, Cheryl(Scott Kasten) Kanitz, Carolyn Hennessey, Susan Schulz, Fritz Schulz, Sharon(Larry) Brown, Millie(Jack) Eckberg, David(Lita) Kanitz, Richard Kanitz, Kathryn Kanitz, and Judy Lasecki. His family would like to thank Pine Crest Nursing Home for their generous and loving care of Lylas during his last month of life, and Aspirus Hospital, Wausau WI, for the wonderful care he received there.
