Kathleen Oestreich

Kathleen R. Oestreich, age 71, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 11, 1945 in Merrill to the late Roy and Margaret (Adams) Filkins. On May 2, 1964, Kathleen and Ronald Oestreich were united in marriage in Merrill at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and he survives. Kathleen graduated from Merrill Senior High School in 1962. She spent many years as a department manager at Pamida in Merrill. She worked at Thelma's Bridal as a seamstress for many years. Kathleen started the girls Little League program in Merrill which she also coached and was past president of the All-Star Little League for several years. She enjoyed bowling and is in the Merrill Bowling Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Hospital Auxillary where she enjoyed lifting peoples' spirits with the smile cart, she also helped with the Eagles Club potato pancake breakfast. Kathleen enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, casino trips and getting together with her monthly lunch group. She loved baseball, especially watching the Milwaukee Brewers and was instrumental in Ron throwing out the first pitch. Kathleen was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Merrill. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, attending all of their sporting events and extra-curricular activities. She recently had hand sewn t-shirt quilts for her granddaughters; keepsakes that they will treasure forever. Survivors include her husband: Ronald Oestreich, Merrill; three children: Tammy (Michael) Markgren, Altoona, Rhonda (Michael) Ross, Suamico, and Eric Oestreich, Mosinee; four grandchildren: Jessica (Andy) Wendling, Madison, Whitney Rawdon, Eau Claire, Emily Ross and Erin Ross, Suamico; two step-grandchildren: Ashtin and Tommy Markgren, Altoona; three great-grandchildren: Jude, Miles and Desirae; siblings: LeRoy Moritz, Arrington, VA, Gloria Moritz, Antigo, Nancy (Peter) Johnson, Sheboygan, James Julius Moritz, Wisconsin Dells, and Dawn (Kevin) Pfingsten, Merrill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius & Margaret Moritz, two sisters in infancy and brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Virginia Oestreich. Funeral services for Kathleen will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Rev. Phil Schneider will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-8 Pm Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10:00 AM Friday until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Corning. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Saviours Church Lutheran Church in Merrill. Monetary donations will also be used for a future memorial bench on the River Bend Trail.
