Jean Ouimette

February 6, 1951 — July 26, 2018

Jean P. Ouimette, age 67, of the town of Pine River, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, while under the care and support of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.  He was born on February 6, 1951 to the late George and Helen (Krueger) Ouimette in Manitowoc, WI.  Jean attended and graduated from Neillsville High School.  He then went on to further his education at UW-River Falls and UW-Oshkosh, working towards his bachelor’s degree in early child psychology, teaching and art.  Jean and Elaine met in 1990, and the two have been inseparable ever since.

Jean had recently worked at the Merrill Wal-Mart doing floor maintenance for about 5 years.  Prior to that, he enjoyed working on carpentry projects and roofing.  Jean liked to do any type of work, as long as it was outside!  His passion was fishing.  Jean looked forward to the many times that he and Elaine would go fishing together, especially at the cabin on the Willow Flowage.  His fish of choice were walleyes and northern pikes.  Jean appreciated all of the beauty that nature had to offer.  He was a quiet man that had a peaceful, understanding way about him.  Jean also enjoyed spending time with his Wal-Mart co-workers.  He will be sadly missed.

Jean is survived by his long-time significant other: Elaine Thomas of Merrill, brothers: George (Diane) of Forestville, WI, Jared (Marguerite) of Greenville, Rene of Hazelhurst, WI and Larry (Melissa) of Minocqua, sisters: Lori (Walter) Evans of Milwaukee and Nanette (significant, Ian) Ouimette from England, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held for Jean at a later date.

Jean’s family wishes to thank Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill for their outstanding care given to Jean during his short stay with them, Aspirus Hospice for their care and support, the Wausau Aspirus Hospital, including Dr. Wheat and his staff and Dr. Rezazadea of his staff, for their care and compassion, as well at the Merrill Aspirus Clinic.

Waid Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
