Gerald "Chet" W. Henrichs

Gerald “Chet” W. Henrichs, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, with his loving family by his side.  He was born on August 16, 1935 to the late Grover and Alice (Raasch) Henrichs in Merrill, WI.  Chet met the love of his life, Joyce Pophal, and the two exchanged marriage vows on April 12, 1957 in Merrill.  Sadly, Joyce passed away on February 14, 2011.

Chet worked in the maintenance department for the Merrill Area Public Schools for many years.  He enjoyed his family and going out to eat, but especially looked forward to the ice cream afterwards!  He was a BBQ ribs fan, as well as doughnuts, which he would often share with his co-workers.  Chet looked forward to going on motorcycle rides, as well as joy rides in the car on every back road imaginable.  He loved woodworking, fishing, and just tinkering around with projects at home, and was very proud that he had built his own home. Chet looked forward to going out to Matt & Kim’s hunting shack every deer season, but sadly had to give it up in recent years.  He took pride in taking care of his great grandchildren when they walked to his house after school.  Chet enjoyed listening to country music and would rarely miss the Swap Shop on WJMT, while enjoying a glass of his favorite wine.  He is remembered as a hard worker, but still had a great sense of humor.  Chet will be sadly missed, but will remain with his friends and family always. 

Chet is survived by his daughter: Jo Henrichs (Kenny) of Merrill, granddaughter: Julia Busterud (Craig Stadler) of the town of Berlin, with her children: Brodee and Jozie, sister-in-law: Linda Henrichs and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Donna and brothers: Wayne “Squint”, Grover Jr. and infant: David.

Per family request, no formal services will be held at this time, but a Summer 2024 Celebration of Life for Chet will take place.
