Esther Biggs

April 4, 1918 — August 17, 2014

Esther M. Biggs, age 96, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Pine Crest Nursing Home under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. She was born April 2, 1918 in Merrill to the late Otto and Emma (Stark) Oestreich. She married Clifford L. Biggs September 14, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. He preceded her in death December 29, 1995. Esther was the last surviving child of 13 children. She was a homemaker and loved being a wife, mother and grandmother first above everything else. Esther enjoyed baking and cooking and always made the big family Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners-she never missed a holiday. She enjoyed playing cards and was active in several card clubs. Esther liked to reminisce about the good ol' days on the farm. She was very committed to her faith and her family and loved her family more than anything. The "trip of her lifetime" was when she rented an RV with her daughter Sharon and her husband and traveled out west. Esther was a charter member of Lincoln County ARC where she was very active. She was a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary. Esther was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and was very committed to daily devotions. Survivors include her five children: Jeanne (Oscar) Wangen, Sharon (Richard) Prentice, Richard (LeaAnn) Biggs, Mary Biggs and Carolynn (Joseph) Hoffman; seven grandchildren: Kathy, Christina, Steve, Jeromy, Stacy, Jennifer and Sarah; 10 great- grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Grace and Ethel Oestreich and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford and eight brothers: Emil, Martin, John, Paul, Albert, William, Herbert and Otto; and four sisters: Olga, Erna, Bertha and Selma. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 22, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Thursday, August 21 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10 AM until the time of service at the church on Friday. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, town of Scott. A special thank you to the staff at Pine Crest and Ministry Hospice for their kindness and care. Memorials may be made in Esther's name to Trinity Lutheran Church, Special Olympics or the charity of choice. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
