Emma Johns

Emma Minnie Johns, age 93, passed away on November 14, 2014 at St. Clare's Hospital in Weston, WI. Emma was born to Adolf and Alvina (Tesch) Erdman on August 9, 1921 in Ogema, WI. She married Charles Johns on October 15, 1941 in Phillips, WI, a union lasting over 50 years. He precedes her in death. Emma was a house wife and an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Kennan, WI. Emma loved being in the kitchen baking treats or cooking meals, and she was wonderful at it. She proudly served as president of the VFW Auxiliary in Catawba, WI. She received her CNA certification and worked at the Phillips Nursing Home for 15 years until she retired. After retirement Emma and Charles traveled to Tucson, AZ during the winters – they enjoyed being "snow birds". Emma was actively involved in the Foster Grandparent program at the Lincoln Hills School for 10 years. She loved visiting with people and truly enjoyed getting company from family and friends. She also enjoyed working on puzzles with other residents at Pine Crest Nursing Home. She will be sadly missed. Emma was survived by her four children: June Buehler of Merrill, Fred (Marjorie) Johns of Wausau, Cynthia (Walter) Uher of Hopkinsville, KY and Edward (Jillette) Johns of Merrill; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, 4 step great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles; sisters: Erna, Anna, Elsie and Alice; brothers: Albert and Verner; and one great grandson: Jordan. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11AM at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 10AM and end at the time of the service. Pastor Scott Gustafson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, family requests that any donations be sent to the Zion Lutheran Church, W10363 Main St, Kennan, WI 54537.
