Carol Sczygelski

March 5, 1933 — September 6, 2020

Carol J. Sczygelski, age 87, of Merrill, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2020, while surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on March 5, 1933, daughter of the late John Arba and Martha (Pottloff) Bonebright in Cortland, NE.

Carol retired from Lincoln Hills where she did bookkeeping and accounting.  After her retirement she was elected as treasurer for the Town of Scott.  Carol enjoyed volunteering at the hospital and blood bank.  Carol’s faith in God was an important part of her life; she was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and a member of The Order of The Eastern Star.  Carol loved watching birds, playing cards, baking cookies and building puzzles.  She will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Carol is survived by her children: Christopher (Diane) Paulsen of Peoria, AR., David (Debra) Paulsen of Mountain View, CA., James (Michelle) Paulsen of Irma, WI., Craig (Carol) Frick of Mary Esther, FL., Karen Zoellner of Merrill, WI., Carla (Bryan) Weisenfeld of Merrill, WI., and Corinne (Mark) Harris of Alton, IL.; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Scott (Michelle) Paulsen, their children: Kaylee, Anara and Ceclia, Jeff (Angela) Paulsen, their children: Elizabeth and William, Dale (Heather) Ostrowski, their children: Leo and Cole, Sabrina (Chris) Hackney, Sonya (Eric) Fisher, their child: Easton, Stephanie (Dale) Williams, their children: Eric, Katlyn and Colton, Jason (JD) Zoellner, their children: Scarlett and Henry, Nathaniel Weisenfeld, his child: Wyatt, Nicholas Weisenfeld, Terry (Meagan) Brietzke and Rebecca Brietzke and Walter Sczygelski’s family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Walter Sczygelski and sisters: Lola and Beverly.

To comply with the current guidelines regarding COVID-19, a public drive-thru visitation for Carol will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 9am until 10am at Waid Funeral Home.  Instructions will be given upon arrival.  Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.  A funeral service for immediate family will be held after the visitation, with Pastor Pat Schutz officiating.  The service will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend, please look for it on her obituary page on our website.  A family only burial will take place at the Snow Hill Cemetery in the Town of Scott.

In lieu of flowers or plants, family strongly encourages donations in Carol’s name be directed to the American Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice.
