Barbara Holzem

Barbara "Barb" M. Holzem, age 84, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Benedictine Living Facility under the care of Asera Care Hospice. She was born April 9, 1932 in Wausau to the late Lawrence Seefeldt and Marian Sowinski. On July 2, 1952 Barb and Alex J. Holzem were united in marriage in Wausau. He survives. Barb attended and graduated from Wausau High School. She was a homemaker for Alex and their 10 children. Barb enjoyed hooking rugs, word puzzles, and playing cards. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends including the family dogs. Barb loved helping people and spending time gardening. She was an outgoing, happy person with a great sense of humor who loved to joke around. Barb was a devoted Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wausau. Survivors include her husband of nearly 64 years: Alex Holzem, Wausau; three daughters: Georgia Wenzel, Hamburg, Bonnie (Ted) Brockman, Cleveland, WI, and Nancy (Ted) Kerr, San Antonio, TX; five sons: Mike (Lorraine) Holzem, Cleveland, WI, Larry (Ann) Holzem, Wausau, Joe Holzem (Julie White), Wausau, Kenny (Linda) Holzem, Tomahawk, and Kevin (Jane) Holzem, Virginia Beach; daughter-in-law: Kaylene (Bill) Beatz; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Jerry Rader, Schofield, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Seefeldt and Marian Sowinski, son, Gary Holzem, daughter, Kelly Holzem, son-in-law, Michael Steinberg and sister, Mary Ann Rader. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Waid Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 AM until 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Waid Funeral Home at 301 Eagle Dr. Merrill, WI 54452 to assist the family with funeral expenses. The family would like to thank the staff at Benedictine Living Center and support services from Asera Care Hospice. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
