Andrea Fischer

January 22, 1945 — January 10, 2019

Andrea Fischer, age 73, of Irma, died on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the UW Madison Hospital, after a short illness.  She was born on January 22, 1945 to Andrew and Myrtle (Englund) Fischer in Merrill.  Her mother, Myrtle, survives

Graduated from Merrill High School with the class of 1963, UW Oshkosh and earned her Masters degree at the UW Milwaukee.  She was a science & physical education teacher in Oconomowoc, Little Chute and Ashwaubenon’s Parkview Middle School for 30 years.  Andrea coached basketball at both the high school and middle school.  She retired in 2002.  Traveling was always an adventure, taking her mother to Sweden, was one of her treasured travels.  Andrea loved athletic competition & cherished friendships from playing softball, basketball, and volleyball.  She was an avid fan of Green Bay Packers and WI Badgers.  The WI State Girls & Boys Basketball tournaments were an annual spring favorite.  Andrea always lovingly supported education & athletics in the lives of her nephews, niece and their children.  She was never “to busy” to teach a child to swim, help with a school project or play a game.

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” – Pericles

Andrea’s patience, compassion and dedication contributed to her success as a teacher.  She cared very deeply for her students, remembering them even decades after they’d left school.  Andrea was teacher of the year in 1992 and received the JC Penny Golden Rule Award in 1995.  She truly loved living on Silver Lake and enjoyed the frequent family gatherings.  Andrea is lovingly remembered as a fun-loving person that was full of life.   Andrea loved her family and looked forward to having the nieces & nephews come for visits, spending time on the water.  She will be sadly missed.
