Matthew M. Zastrow




Age 49, of Irma died unexpectedly Saturday June 13, 2009, at his residence.


He was born April 1, 1960 in Merrill the son of Phillip and Betty (Bunge) Zastrow.


Matthew was educated locally and began working at Bill’s House Of Guns at age 16, where he worked for over 13 years. He then worked for Wausau Paper for 20 years.


Matthew and Bernadette G. Brietzke were united in marriage May 6, 1978 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Irma.




Matthew truly enjoyed gardening, photography, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family especially his granddaughter and his sons.




Survivors include: Wife: Bernadette of Irma,


5 sons: Jacob ( Kristen) of Stevens Point,


Lucas (Kelly) and their son Logan of Marshfield


Zachary (Jessica) and their daughter Maycie of Merrill,


Joshua and special friend Rosie of Stevens Point,


Matthew (Jade) of Stevens Point,


His parents: Phillip and Betty Zastrow


3 brothers: Ken


Terry (Leah)


And Todd all of Merrill,


Grandmother: Florence Barnia,


Many nieces and nephews.




He was preceded in death by his son Phillip and granddaughter Isabella.




Visitation will be Tuesday June 16, 4-8 PM at Waid Funeral Home, and Wednesday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Irma 10 am until the time of service.


Funeral service will be 11 am Wednesday June 17, 2009 at the church. The Rev. Pastor Hans J. Heisinger will officiate with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
