Linda Osness

Linda L. Osness, 60, Merrill, WI died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at her home.


She was born October 9, 1949 in Merrill, the youngest daughter of Oscar and Lucinda (Kroeplin) Osness. Upon graduating from Merrill High School, she became a devoted employee of the Cooperative League Credit Union, now known as Park City Credit Union, where she currently held the position of Executive Vice President –Financial Services. She was honored for her 40 years of dedication in October of 2007.


Linda was actively involved in the School to Work Program and the Youth Apprenticeship Program with the MAPS district. She helped establish the branch office at Merrill Senior High School along with coordinating the establishment of branch offices in Tomahawk, Minoqua and Rhinelander.


Linda was selected by Merrill’s Business and Professional Women’s Club as Young Careerist of the year in 1976. That same year she was selected for inclusion in the 1976 edition of OUTSTANDING YOUNG WOMEN OF AMERICA. She was noted for her presentations encouraging young women along the path to success.


Linda was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church having served as past treasurer and presently auditor. She was Co-Captain of Park City Credit Union’s Relay for Life Team and took pride in being recognized by the Wisconsin Credit Union League for her long efforts. She gave selflessly to her family, church, career and community.


An avid sports fan, she participated in the Wausau Women’s Softball League for many years. Her trophy case was the envy of her nephews and nieces. She cheered on the Milwaukee Brewers and was a faithful fan of the Green Bay Packers, attending games at Lambeau Stadium as often as she could.


She was an active member of the Credit Union League and Optimist Club, where she put in long hours selling cheese curds at the fair. She took part in the annual Credit Union night at the Wausau Woodchucks games.


Linda enjoyed working outdoors tending to her beautiful flower gardens and mowing her lawn, always wearing her headset to catch the latest Brewer games. She also enjoyed reading, travel, spending time with her extended family and spoiling her nephews and nieces and great-nephews and nieces. She was always supportive of their endeavors and proud of their achievements. Aunt Linda will always hold a special place in their hearts.


She will be deeply missed by her siblings who survive: Virginia Severt, Betty (Walter) Latzig, Allen (Carol) Osness, Elayne (Richard) Ollmann, Phyllis (Ralph) Buch, of Merrill, Janet Beyer-Thums of Plover, and Raymond (Darlene) Osness of Port Washington, and sisters-in-law; Carol Osness and Faye Jean Osness of Merrill.


She will be further mourned by her many nephews and nieces and friends whose lives she touched.


Linda was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Harry, Ervin (Jack), Oscar, Jr., Dale, and David, and sisters-in-law Betty Osness and Merrill Osness. Nephew Steven Osness and nieces Kim Russell and Anne Marie Osness also preceded her in death.


Services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeffery Martinson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 PM, Monday, April 5, 2010 at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill and again from 9:30 AM Tuesday until the hour of service at the church, burial to follow at Merrill Memorial Park. The family requests memorials be given to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
