Joyce Pfantz

Joyce E. Pfantz, 82, of Merrill, died Friday, January 3rd, 2014 at Pine Crest Nursing Home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born September 23rd, 1931 to the late Elmer & Mabel (Kleinschmidt) Rothmeyer. On September 15th, 1951 she married Roscoe "Rusty" Pfantz in Wausau, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on December 31st, 1976. Joyce attended the elementary school in Brokaw, WI. She worked at the Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in Merrill for 20+ years, and more recently, worked as a stockperson at the local Walmart. Joyce enjoyed her family very much, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed walking in the woods and helping cut and pile firewood. Joyce loved her flowers and enjoyed caring for them and sharing them with others. She enjoyed watching the goldfish that she had placed in a small decorative pond in her yard. Joyce enjoyed watching the wildlife in her yard, especially deer and the occasional bear. Joyce would spend much of her time crocheting and embroidering. She did enjoy to travel, especially to Hawaii. She enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas to visit family. Joyce was well-known for her famous cinnamon rolls, and brought them to all of the family events. She enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music. Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. Survivors include her children, Ronald (Sue) Pfantz, Shelby (Rodney) Smithback, Randy (Kathy) Pfantz and Gene (Sarah) Pfantz; her grandchildren, Sara (John) Willis, Molly (Gus) Velez, Kendrah (Andy) Pearson, Tiffany Winters (friend Brad Tessen), Megan (Joshua) Parsons, Erik Pfantz, Tyler Pfantz, Elizabeth Pfantz and Matthew Pfantz; great-grandchildren, Avery, Asher, Gabreil, James, Christian, David, Audrey, Drew and Shaw; brothers, Derald Rothmeyer, Rodney Rothmeyer, Roger Rothmeyer and Larry Rothmeyer; sisters, Bonnie Iwen and Carol Dancik; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roscoe "Rusty"; a brother, Ardin Rothmeyer ; a sister Dona Karaba. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, January 10th, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. Visitation will be held at Waid Funeral Home on Thursday, January 9th, 2014 from 4-8 PM and also at the church an hour prior to the service. The Rev. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate.
