John Gryskiewicz

August 25, 1928 — March 17, 2010

John Joseph Gryskiewicz, 81, Tomahawk, formerly of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Tomahawk.



John was born on August 25, 1928 in the Town of Pine River to the late Stanley J. and Ludwiga (Prostic) Gryskiewicz. He married Marion Schumacher June 6, 1953. She preceded him in death in 1973.



John was in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in Guam and the Philippines . He drove milk truck and worked at Northern Door in his earlier years. John then worked construction in the Milwaukee area and in central Wisconsin until retiring in 1990. He was very involved in the V.F.W. Post in Gleason. John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, making maple syrup and cutting pulp and firewood. He was quite knowledgeable about nature and the outdoors. John was an avid note taker on everything he did and was known for his patriotism-he always flew the flag.



Survivors include his daughter: Becky (Bruce) Cropsey, Lincoln , NE ; 2 sons: Joe (Julie) Gryskiewicz, Merrill and Tom ( Lynn ) Gryskiewicz, Three Lakes ; 2 sisters: Agnes Gryskiewicz, FL, and Jean Neitzel, Milwaukee ; 2 brothers: Frank (Dorothy) Gryskiewicz and Eugene (Marie) Gryskiewicz, all of Merrill; 7 grandchildren: Adam, Jeremy, Jessica, Patrick, Nicole, David and Jonathan; 3 great-grandchildren: Allison, Trenton and Tatiana.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marion, 2 daughters: Terry and Ginny, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.



Services will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 11:00 AM at Waid Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 9 – 11 AM, also at the funeral home. The Rev. Scott Hawker will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Francis cemetery. Waid Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com .
