Harold Meyer

Harold “Shorty” H. Meyer




Age 82, of Merrill, died Wednesday, July 8, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, with


family by his side, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.




Harold was born October 17, 1926 in the town of Schley, the son of the late


William and Ida (Schmidt) Meyer. Harold served proudly with the US Army. On


September 27, 1952 Harold married Marjorie Zimmerman at St. Paul’s Lutheran


Church in Irma.




Harold worked as a mechanic at Monroe Garage in Merrill, he then worked for the


City of Merrill Street Department for 26 years, retiring August 23, 1982. He


enjoyed gardening, watching baseball, especially the Cubs, cruising around and


daily visits with family members. Harold loved to give candy and ice cream cones


to the grandkids. In the late 1950’s Harold was known as the Mayor of Lakeview,


where he was famous for his Barbeque dinners of grilled chicken and brats.




Survivors include: wife, Marjorie of Merrill,


4 daughters: Sharon (William) Schnieder,


Nancy Meyer, all of Merrill,


Donna (Frank) Shaver of Marion,


Julie Ott and special friend Mark Lambrecht of Merrill, 5 sons: David (TamsleeRain) ,


Mark, Keith (JoAnn), Paul (Lori) all of Merrill,


and Harley (Sherry) of Spencer.


20 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren,


Twin sister Harriet Lange of Pine Crest,


Sister, Elaine Helbock, of Clinton,


Sister in law, Arlene Meyer of Gleason,


Many nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.




Harold was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ida Meyer, and three


brothers Arnold, Raymond and Elmer.




Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, July 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, the Rev. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Burial to follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Schley, with graveside military honors by VFW

Visitaion will be Sunday 2-6 pm at the Waid Funeral Home, 301 Eagle Drive,


Merrill, and again Monday at the church from 10 am until the time of service.
