Edward Cannon

Edward M. Cannon, age 78, of Shawano, formerly of Merrill, died May 22, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay . He was born July 25, 1931 in the town of Pine River, Lincoln County , Wisconsin . He was the son of the late John and Hattie (Hartwig) Cannon. He married Loretta Lenz on June 25, 1955 and they were married for 35 years. She preceded him in death on August 19, 1990. He was happily married on his 70 th birthday to Bonnie (Dickelman) Cannon on July 25, 2001. She survives.



Ed served in the U.S. Army from April, 1950 until December,1952. He served in the Korean War from September,1950 until August,1951.



His many occupations were working at Semling & Menke Co. in the cutting department for 9 years. Ed was a car salesman at Monroe Motors for 4 years. He worked at Ace Hardware. Ed worked as a janitor for the Merrill Area School system for a total of 12 years, first at the Merrill Senior High School and retired from the Jefferson Elementary school in 1991.



He was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ and VFW Post 1638. Among Ed’s favorite pass time was woodworking, gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, feeding and watching the birds, going to casinos, trips, telling his grandchildren stories of his past and talking to his dear friends Mr. Gene Bebel (Merrill) and Gene Rice of Lincoln County.



Survivors include his wife of 9 years, Bonnie Cannon, Shawano, daughters; Lorri (Leroy) Vandre, Merrill, Micki (Dan) Laatsch, Waupaca, Dana (Kevin) Wendt, Merrill sons; Brad (Jeannette) Cannon, Merrill, Jim (Keri) Wolff, Merrill and Craig (Stacey) Wolff, Arcadia, OK. Grandchildren; Dustin Vandre, Dillon and Tyler Cannon, Tyler and Bryson Wendt, Traci, Trista and Alex Wolff all of Merrill. Rochelle Smith, Columbia , SC , Brian Forsberg, MN, Bryan and Christi Wolff of Texas , Jamie Rotell, Appleton and Matt Rotell of Merrill. One Sister; Ruth Schneinder, Merrill, one Brother Duwayne (Janet) Cannon, NV.



Ed was preceded in death by his parents and late wife, one sister and her husband, Dorothy (Alvin) Krueger, one brother and his wife Ken (Kate) Cannon, one brother –in-law, George Schneider and one sister-in-law and her husband , Virginia (Ed) Sell.



Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 27, 2010 at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ. The Rev. Scott Hawker will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park with military honors provided by VFW Post 1638. Friends may call from 4 PM until 8 PM Wednesday at the Waid Funeral Home and again on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the hour of services at the church.
