Arden Ebert

September 6, 1923 — September 21, 2010

Arden L. Ebert

Arden Leo Ebert completed his life’s work on September 21 st , 2010 at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill.

Arden was born in Coloma, Wisconsin on September 6, 1923 to the late Carl and Bertha (Raatz) Ebert. He married Amy (Craven) Ebert on October 24, 1953 in Merrill.

In his life, Arden pursued many paths and mastered a wide range of skills. Early in his life, when radio was new and exciting, he ran his own home-based radio repair shop. He then went to school in Port Arthur, Texas where he studied electronics and thereafter worked in a number of radio and television stations, including one in Merrill where he met Amy. After their wedding they lived in Columbia, Missouri for two years and then moved to Minneapolis where he spent several years pioneering the University of Minnesota’s new closed circuit television system. With two children now, he moved his family to St. Cloud, Minnesota where he was on staff at St. Cloud State University. Meanwhile, he ran his home-based “House of Stereo” business selling stereo components he built, and later became a realtor. In the early 1980’s he and Amy bought the Camelot Motel in Amery, Wisconsin. They operated the motel nearly without a break until they retired to Tomahawk and finally Merrill, completing their 54-year marriage.

Wherever they were, Arden and Amy enjoyed the company of many friends and relatives. They traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean and across the U. S. Arden was an avid gardener, fisherman, genealogist, and loved his ham radio and computer hobbies. Whatever he did, he brought his exceptional problem-solving skills and his warm sense of humor. In an age of specialization, Arden could (and most often did) repair, renovate and build nearly anything in his houses and hotel. While his skills were boundless, Amy taught him the value of the heart. Together, they formed a team and completed each other.

Arden was preceded in death by Amy, in 2008. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Ebert (Ronald Fleetwood), Los Lunas, N.M. and son Carl Ebert (Mary Seieroe), Golden Valley, MN.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 24, 2010 at Bell Tower Residence Chapel. Chaplain Don Dinsmore will officiate. The Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com .
